Lynne Lancaster and David Stillman are co-authors of the best selling business book When Generations Collide. Who They Are. Why They Clash. How to Solve the Generational Puzzle at Work. In addition to topping two best-seller lists, their book is one of only two titles published by HarperCollins in 2002 that has sold more copies with each ensuing year. They recently released their newest book: The M-Factor in April 2010 which outlines the seven trends about how the millennial generation is rocking the workplace.

According to Webster’s dictionary, a Volunteer (vol•un•teer ) is “a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task.” That certainly describes the hundreds of NetVU members that give of their time and expertise on a daily basis in a myriad of ways for the good of the organization.

 

The very nature of associations is that they depend on the strength and commitment of their volunteer force and the NetVU organization is no different.  Often people are surprised by the small number of staff NetVU employs; they are amazed by how much gets done with so few people.  What they don’t realize is the enormous commitment by our members to serve in these important volunteer capacities.

 

The 2011 NetVU Conference - April 28-30 in Orlando - is a perfect example of volunteers coming together to bring about one of the organizations most critical components. From developing the educational program to acting as guides to help attendees find what they need, volunteers step up to the plate each and every time, no matter what the task.  

 

If you haven’t stepped up yet, talk to any of those members that have; ask them why they give of their time and energy. They will tell you, they get back from the experience so much more than they give.
