Higginbotham Draws Insights, Process Improvement From its Systems with MITS Report
“We’ve got the information — tons of it,” says Carol Luebbehusen, small accounts manager, commercial lines operations for Higginbotham & Associates. “But it’s been hard to take advantage of it. It’s always been very frustrating, knowing the amount of data that’s there — and that you can’t get.”
Higginbotham, a large, Fort Worth-based agency, has used the Vertafore Sagitta agency management system to run its business since 1997. And the business has run quite well, thank you — the agency now has fifteen sales offices blanketing Texas. But it hasn’t always been easy to extract information from Sagitta.
“The Sagitta Report Builder tool can be useful for a few canned reports,” says Luebbehusen. “But you need to be a programmer to produce anything else with it.” The agency has tried several other reporting solutions, but none has worked well.
Then Luebbehusen and other agency executives got a look at an advanced reporting solution from Seattle-based reporting and analytics provider MITS. They liked what they saw in MITS Report, but decided on a proof-of-concept project to evaluate the product before buying it.
“The MITS team helped us set up about a dozen new reports,” says Luebbehusen. “It was all so easy to use, and the MITS people were very responsive through the process.” The agency chose to go ahead with MITS Report, and implementation went smoothly.
Now, just a few months later, MITS Report automatically generates more than 100 weekly, semi-monthly and monthly reports, and distributes them via e-mail to producers, marketers and managers across Higginbotham. Examples include a monthly report for marketers and their team leaders, listing policies set to expire 120 days in the future; a similar report customized for producers; and a weekly new-business report for corporate and branch managers. “This automation is a huge time-saver for me,” says Luebbehusen.
Luebbehusen gets a lot of requests for new reports, frequently to facilitate key planning and decision-making activities. “It’s not unusual to get a request such as ‘all homeowner policies where dwellings are valued between $150k and $250k, with form coverage’,” she explains.
Another inquiry sought top client revenue trends year-over-year. She can respond to these requests quickly — new reports are easy to define. When additional data needs to be extracted from the Sagitta system, rather than doing it themselves, Higginbotham relies on MITS to do the mapping, and the MITS team has always responded quickly.
Luebbehusen also happily points to reporting-enabled process improvements, such as a semi-monthly report that highlights policy renewals that haven’t been invoiced.
“MITS Report lets us gather new insights quickly when we need them,” Luebbehusen concludes. “It really allows us to look at and analyze our insureds’ needs, and the trends in their business — and that lets us respond with cross-selling or new business pursuits. MITS Report is a definite win for us.”
