The Volunteer of the Year Award awarded in Memory of James M. Gibson recognizes outstanding volunteer service which embodies the dedication and commitment to NetVU and our community of members. Kate O’Toole is that volunteer and much more.

Kate, Operations & Agency Management Systems Project Manager for Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage is used to “jumping with both feet in” whether to step into the role of President of SAUCI, NetVU’s National Sagitta All Users Chapter, Inc., or to become a new at-large member on the NetVU Board of Directors. Long versed in bringing technology to the forefront, Kate excels at connecting the dots to bringing Sagitta education and processes to both new and experienced users. Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain and Kate continually gives her time and knowledge to making everything better.

Her philosophy is when people take the time to teach, recognize and empower, in turn one has the responsibility to teach others, thus expanding our industry’s network and knowledge base. Being recognized at all levels empowers one to do more. Learning may mean that change in coming and change is necessary to grow and keep up with fast paced environments. Change is only perceived as good if communicated effectively.

“Detail oriented and organized software trainer, and project manager who thrives on consistency and accountability.” succinctly describes Kate’s LinkedIn energy. Kate’s modus operandi is to increase efficiencies and exhibits this trait in so many facets of her career. #Brad Booth says it best, “Kate is always finding creative ways of promoting engagement and is always willing to help, especially when it comes to sharing her knowledge with colleagues across NetVU. She is one of the people that brings a lot of fun to working with NetVU, including being a producer and editor of films with her favorite star Bruce Westman."

According to Bruce Westman, Vertafore Sr. Product Manager for Sagitta, “Kate has always been someone from the agency side I can depend on whether it’s to test a new feature, give feedback, teach a class. She always has such a positive attitude and is always willing to help and volunteer on Sagitta committee’s like Education and R&D. She is a great advocate to the Sagitta community.”

Truly embracing NetVU’s mission “We build the future by utilizing the expertise of our volunteers and staff to promote world-class education, the exchange of ideas, advocacy and technology innovation in the insurance industry. “Kate is the ultimate go-to volunteer, whether part of her job, helping a friend, a co-worker, NetVU or Vertafore or a new project she is always willing to jump in and help. She finds the answers for anyone who needs a question answered.” says Allyne Miller, Operations Manager, Allen Lawrence & Associates, LLC.
