Behind Day of Caring: Finding Recovery and Employment with Avivo’s Help Day of Caring

By Liz Leger | Posted: 2/24/2020

Growing up on what he calls “the mean streets of Chicago,” Jeff wanted to get off the streets and away from gang violence; he wanted a better life for himself. He entered treatment at Avivo and worked with career counselors to find employment. He works at a county treatment facility and is going to school to become an addiction counselor.

“I wanted a future. I wanted a life... I wanted something better for myself than the streets.” Read Jeff’s story.

Join NetVU as we support Avivo and others like Jeff by donating and volunteering for Day of Caring on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, sponsored by The Cincinnati Insurance Company.

Since 1960, Avivo has helped individuals transform their lives, particularly people facing significant and multiple challenges to self-sufficiency. This includes poverty, racism, physical and mental health concerns, homelessness, substance abuse, little or no education, outdated work skills, limited English language skills, and more.

Day of Caring

From its start as a vocational rehabilitation services provider in Minneapolis, Avivo now offers chemical and mental health services, career education, and employment services.  Avivo provides full integration and pairing of services – chemical and mental health, career education, and employment services – creating the strongest paths for life transformation for the nearly 15,000 individuals helped every year.
