Forensic Accounting: Finding & Fixing Financial Red Flags
Wednesday, August 26th | 11 - 12:30 a.m. CT | Virtual
Instructor: Janet Tuttle, NetVU
Your agency's Trial Balance tells a story. The key is knowing which numbers deserve your attention.
In this session, you'll learn how to identify common accounting red flags hidden within your agency's financial reports and understand what they reveal about the health of your books. We'll explore issues such as negative bank balances, lingering Interbank Transfer and Bank Holding Account balances, aging Direct Bill Commission Receivables, payroll tax accounts with incorrect balances, and Income and Expense accounts that should never carry beginning balances.
You'll also learn how to investigate each issue using key accounting reports, including the Subsidiary Ledger, General Ledger, and Bank Reconciliation reports, along with practical strategies for correcting problems before they become bigger issues. You'll leave with a maintenance checklist you can use daily, monthly, and bi-monthly to help keep your agency's financial records accurate and audit-ready throughout the year.
