Michael J. Foy, president of Foy Insurance Group, Exeter, New Hampshire, is NetVU’s new chairman of the board. Foy was chairman-elect this past year and replaces outgoing chairman Brent Rineck, CPCU, CLU, ChFC. Rineck will now serve as an ex-officio member of the board and chairman of the NetVU Conference Steering Committee. Joe Clabaugh, senior group manager with The Cincinnati Insurance Company, becomes chairman-elect.
Foy has had many volunteer roles at NetVU, including his work on the Ideas initiative. An active participant in industry technology forums, he has served on insurance company advisory boards and on various committees with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America. He joined his family-owned property-casualty agency in 1979. The agency has 12 locations in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and South Carolina, and a combined staff of over 100 employees.
“I look forward to working with the NetVU Board, Vertafore leadership and our carrier partners to advance the use of technology for the betterment of our industry,” Foy says. While he believes in the power of technology, Foy notes that relationships are what matter most in the insurance business. “My involvement with NetVU stems from the need for our team to focus on relationships — using Vertafore products to enhance efficiency enables us to spend more time with clients and less time on processes, procedures and paperwork.”
In particular, Foy says he will continue NetVU’s efforts to improve communication with Vertafore’s leadership and promote the Ideas initiative to spur product enhancements that benefit all Vertafore users.
“In the past year, the NetVU board has worked closely with Vertafore’s leadership team to improve communication and share insight based on industry experience,” he says. “Open, honest and productive dialog between our organizations is critical to the success of Vertafore, as well as the success of firms using Vertafore’s products.”
Adds Foy, “One of my pet projects has been to become a real ambassador for Ideas. The purpose of Ideas is to take good ideas, build on them and make them great. We do this with open conversation and collaboration with other NetVU members and Vertafore product managers.”
Foy says working with industry leaders to find solutions to ease new cybersecurity requirements, such as multi-factor authentication, will also be a top priority for him. “We need to create safe and secure digital credentials to replace the many user passwords agencies currently maintain,” he says. “The development of an effective digital identity infrastructure will increase agency use of real-time transactions and enable agencies to provide greater customer-service functionality.” One solution NetVU members should get behind, he says, is ID Federation’s SignOn Once. Vertafore is a certified vendor partner for this new single sign-on technology.
